I am very pleased to announce the publication of our latest scientific paper on 𝐈𝐄𝐄𝐄 𝐗𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞, presented at the 𝟒𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐄𝐂𝐌𝐒).
In this work, titled “𝐎𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧–𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬“, we explore an innovative frontier for collaborative robotics: the integration of bio-inspired olfactory sensors to interpret human emotional states.
Unlike vision and hearing, olfaction possesses direct neuroanatomical access to the limbic structures of the brain. Chemical signals, including Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) linked to neuroendocrine responses of stress or joy, can profoundly modulate behavior by bypassing the filters of subjective awareness.
Within the context of Human-Robot Teaming (HRT), we propose a framework where machines can decode these complex “chemical signatures” through advanced neural networks and biosensors.
